Any idea what was up with that hook is coming out of the bumper (not the pintle hitch in the center)? Is it just an internally mounted winch? Why aren't there any rollers?

I'm afraid I don't know anything about this truck, I just thought it looked really cool.

I'm more a fan of the IIB and the coachbuilt FCs, though the Santana 1300 is pretty cool as well:
The Santana 1300 is actually the most numerous one built, and it has a big honkin' six in it. The "normal" Rover six was a 2.6 L-head, but the Spaniards said "fuck this" and built a 3L OHV based on the 2.25 four.

If I recall correctly, these things were usually set up with internal front and rear winches. Also, fairleads are for babies. (I think there is one, just recessed).

I occasionally see a Santana - just like this.

The classic Santana station wagon model was fundamentally identical to the normal SII model except for a few odd points like the rear door and roof design. I've seen a couple - in the US.

The one I see is a PS 10 which has evolved in parallel to the LR and ended up something like a Defender from a parallel universe. Had an Iveco engine and many other changes. They went out of production a few years ago.

Yep. They were bought by Iveco, became the Iveco Massif, and eventually the toolings were, I think, sold to Iranian Morottab.

Those are pretty neat as well, I like the red one, as it has room for more than 2-3 passengers.

The 1300 came in more than one variety, as did the coachbuilds, the LR proper ones didn't.

I remember seeing this Truck for sale a while back for $20000. Really considered buying it but decided I didn't have the funds at the time. Still kicking myself, le sigh.

The FC101 was used to transport Rapier Missile systems for comms uses and as ambulances.
Below is a radio body on the left for use as a mobile communication platform and the one on the right would be used for carrying four missiles and the system would be towed along behind. The PTO could also be used to power the trailer over terrain rather than merely tow it.
Ambulance configuration (often converted into campers for expeditions).
If you have watched Judge Dredd, you'll certainly of seen some of them in the film dressed as taxis, etc...

There are so many really interesting Land Rovers it's almost impossible to say what is the most fascinating.
